3D Numerical Simulation of a Supersonic Gas Jet

This simulation was performed using the piecewise paprabolic method for ideal gas dynamics of Collela and Woodward on a grid of 40 million zones. The jet enters through an inlet at left at six times the speed of sound (MAch 6) and with a density of one-tenth of the ambient desity. The resulting interaction produces a turbulent cocoon surrounding the jet which is clearly seen in this simulation.
